Pittsburgh Penguins make history with repeat title
The Penguins have now won 5 Stanley Cups and are the first franchise in nearly two decades to win back-to-back championships. Even without a Canadian team, viewing has skyrocketed. The Cole Harbour native, Sidney Crosby is now officially one of the all-time greatest players in the history of the NHL. He has won his second Stanley Cup in a row and third overall. The Canadian superstar is just the third player in NHL history to win back-to-back MVP trophies and only the sixth player to win it twice in their career.
On average, over 4.5m Canadians watched the final game across the 3 networks (compared to just 192,000 for the Penguins very first game). This tops the previous most watched game from Round 1, Game 2 (Toronto vs. Washington) which had 3.94m Canadians watching on average.
The final game reached 31.6% of all Individuals 2+ in Canada with 71% of total viewing coming from Eastern Canada. In particular, Quebec Franco showed the most interest, reaching 36.7% of the population compared to 25% in Toronto.
